Is Fox's "The Following" a metaphor for the Regressives of today?

Over and over again we are told that the country is polarized and that there should be more civility in political discourse. I have given that much thought but only just now realized why the polarization will continue and why civil discourse is impossible. Basically we are trying to speak reasonably to a group of people that are only prepared to recognize their own, we might say unreasonable, demands. They are like a very spoiled child, always getting their way, or worse , like someone in a mental institution that has no idea on what the real world is like, who only recognizes their own twisted reality. In the latter case the Regressives of this world are the most dangerous, for they are like the cult leader in Fox's hit show "The Following", where the downfall of the outside world is something that he has been plotting for years. He has slowly gathered around him a group of brain washed sycophants, ready to do everything he asks, however cruel or warped that may be. The objective of the leader is the total subjugation of everyone around him, both in his group as well as others that have dealings with him. Sounds just like King Barry and his court!
